Player & Data

We use the Quicktime player and format for video. There is a lot of information in the gaze data videos and the Quicktime player allows us to slow the action down with frame-by-frame control using the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard. You can also hold down one of the arrow keys and the video will play slightly slower than full speed.

Usually the left frame of the Vision-in-Action video is the motor activity of the participant, and the right frame is taken from the participant's point of view, with a black, white, or red cursor indicating the participant's point of gaze in each frame. There may be an image of the participant's eye, from which we can see blinks and pupil recognition by the system. And there is a timecode generator allowing us to easily calculate onsets, offsets and durations of events such as motor phases and gaze behaviours. The images are all synchronized, allowing us to code all pieces of data within the same timeline, and therefore to know the relationships between the gaze information and motor output.

Browsers

Most of the video is in Quicktime format with the extension .mov; and compressed with the MPEG-4 codec. Generally the pages are optimized for the Firefox web browser, however we strive to solve issues across platforms. Please report any problems with the site by e-mail.

Firefox
Here are a few options to help you customize the way videos appear in your browser:
If your video window comes up black with a "play" icon in the centre, and an "X" at the top right, click the "X" to make the video run in the web page. You can also click the "play" icon to open the video in a Quicktime Player, if it is installed.

Internet Explorer
Depending on your browser security settings you will probably be asked if you want to run an Active-X Control each time you
click on a video. Just click OK, and we will find a workaround for this
